Sarah has successfully run an independent practice doula business since 2009 and through exceptional growth independently, realized that Tulsa was primed to have a centralized agency providing all the support a growing family could need. She brought together multiple educators, birth doulas, postpartum doulas, and placenta encapsulators so that you can have one place to go to find all your prenatal, birth and postpartum support in Tulsa.

She is a Hypnobabies® Childbirth Hypnosis Instructor, certified birth doula through DONA International, a Hypno-Doula through Hypnobabies®, certified childbirth preparation instructor through Your Birth Experience, certified as a labor and postpartum doula and placenta specialist, and is a Happiest Baby on the Block Instructor. (Whew! I'm committed to this career!)

She is a native Tulsan, graduate of the University of Tulsa, a wife and mother of three and talks a little below about how she got into birth work.

"I resigned from Philbrook as the marketing and pr manager right before the birth of our daughter and made stay at home mom my full time job. Seventeen months later (yep, you read that right), we welcomed our first son. I struggled with severe postpartum depression a great deal after he was born, partly because of my labor and delivery with him and partly because I suffered from Hyperemesis Gravidarum during all of my pregnancies.

My husband and I decided that we wouldn't have any more children because of the toll that our experience took on all of us as a family. When we found out about 2 years later that we were, in fact, expecting another child, I was determined to make this experience different. Through much research, reading, videos, blogs and some incredible conversations with educated women around me, I learned that how you labor and give birth can affect how you mother.

When the day came for him to make his entrance, I had an amazing labor and delivery nurse that very much acted as a doula for me. It wasn't just the childbirth experience, but the feeling of support and the unending belief in me. That forever changed my perspective on how one person can positively influence a woman in labor and help breathe confidence into her and her partner during the most magnificent times of their lives.

Right then, I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wanted to be a doula and my passion became my business."

Sarah is definitely living her passion and her mission by increasing the confidence in birth and in parenting for every family the agency serves.

Her favorite things to do outside of working with families are watching her children grow into fascinating people, read a good book, and dig her toes into the sand of a warm, beautiful beach.
