First Annual Homebirthday Party
Written by Sarah Davis
This past Saturday my husband and I loaded the van with our toddlers and baby, swung by my beloved Starbucks and made our way to Zink Park for the 1st annual Oklahoma Homebirthday Party. The Midwives Society of Oklahoma put together birthday activities, yummy cupcakes, and little party favors. This birthday gathering was not just for midwives, doulas and homebirth families, but also for all people who celebrate and support home (and birth centers) as an option for birthing women.
Celebrating with My Birth Team
Five months ago, I had my sweet little girl Rowan at home. Celebrating her birth and my toddler's birth, with the birth workers and homebirth supporting families of Tulsa was more than a sugar and caffeine rush. It was wonderful to be surrounded by the very team I had handpicked to support and care for me during that journey. My chiropractor Dr. Zimmerman from Sowing Wellness, who lovingly adjusted my achy pregnant body, magically calming my ridiculous amount of prodromal labor was in attendance; she chatted with me as our babies cooed and stared at one another. I even got to talk to and snag a picture with my midwives Faith Morie, CPM and her student (soon to be CPM) Rebecca Shultz before they had to run off to a birth. (Yay!)
Wherever you want to give birth, building a community of support and care is important. The journey of being a parent is a windy, crazy ride and having people in your corner is invaluable to building confidence in your self to make the right choices for you (not just what people want for you!) It was so affirming for me to know that each of these women on my team were knowledgeable, professional, and capable of giving me wonderful care. I felt prepared for my birth and a peace that even in the unexpected; I had prepared myself in the best way possible with the best team for myself.
Celebrating Tulsa and the Tulsa Areas Birth Options
I love homebirth, hospital birth, and birth center births. But, what I really love the most is when my clients find an option for their place of birth that makes them feel secure, cared for, and respected with a care provider who mirrors that as well. When it comes to your options, Tulsa Family Doulas are very familiar with the local hospitals and OBs and equally familiar with the local home birth and birth center midwives. Providing options and resources for the Tulsa area is something Tulsa Family Doulas takes great pride in, as we want your special day to be all about you and what makes you feel safe, secure, and supported.
Tulsa Family Doulas mission is to increase confidence in birth and parenting for every family we serve, whether that be in the home, a hospital, or a birth center.
